Community Currencies
A Tool for Community and Economic Development
This page is intended to be a resource for
people interested in building healthier communities, using community currencies
as a tool for local economic and community development. Also known
as local currencies, or mutual credits, these systems hold promise for
increasing a community's capacity to gain control over it's economic life,
while increasing civic engagement and fostering community-level interactions.

This page has been created for Urban
and Regional Economic Development, a course in the Department
of City and Regional Planning at UNC Chapel Hill. This
page contains information about community currency programs within the
United States. My classmates have also produced web sites about varied
economic development topics. To view their work, please see the PLAN
261 topics page.
